Around 10:00 CET, we experienced performance problems for a number of minutes that led to slow loading times on some newsrooms. Some visitors during this timeframe may not have been able to reach the page. The cause of the problem has been identified and resolved. Furthermore, measures have been taken to prevent recurrence.

As a consequence of a misconfiguration, specific components within the Manager and Newsrooms interfaces ceased to load correctly, resulting in errors. The root cause has been identified and a patch has been applied. Furthermore, preventive measures have been taken to ensure this specific issue won't happen again.

Log4j investigations

In response to the Apache Log4j vulnerability, we have investigated any potential impact on the PressPage Platform and can safely state that the platform itself is not affected. PressPage is fully hosted on AWS cloud services and does not self-manage any environments which contain this exploit.

AWS does use Log4j2 in some of its peripheral services, none of which contains content or data from the PressPage platform. AWS is aware of the recently disclosed security issue and have made patching this exploit the highest priority (https://aws.amazon.com/security/security-bulletins/AWS-2021-006/).
